Privacy Policy

Last updated: 13 June 2026

The short version: FairScan has no account and no servers. Your documents are processed entirely on your device using Apple's frameworks. We do not collect, upload, store, sell, or share your personal data. There is no analytics SDK, no ad network, and nothing to breach.

What FairScan accesses on your device

FairScan requests only the permissions it needs to function:

You can revoke any permission at any time in iOS Settings › FairScan.

Document storage

Scanned documents are saved to on-device storage (your device's local file system) or to your personal iCloud Drive if you choose that destination. Both options are controlled by Apple, not by FairScan. We never receive a copy of your documents or their contents.

If you use iCloud Drive, Apple encrypts your files in transit and at rest under your Apple ID. FairScan is not party to that transaction. Apple's privacy policy governs iCloud data.

On-device OCR

Text recognition (OCR) uses Apple's Vision framework and runs entirely on your iPhone. Document text is never extracted and transmitted to any server — not ours, not Apple's Vision API in the cloud. The processing happens locally on the device's Neural Engine. We do not see, log, or store the text content of any document you scan.

Purchases

The optional Pro upgrade ($19.99, one-time) is processed by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit 2. FairScan never sees your payment method, Apple ID, or billing details. Apple's privacy policy governs that transaction.

Analytics and advertising

FairScan contains no third-party analytics SDK (no Firebase, no Mixpanel, no Amplitude, no Crashlytics, no Meta Pixel). There are no ads. There is no tracking across apps or websites. We do not use device fingerprinting or cross-app identifiers.

We use Apple's built-in App Store Connect analytics (aggregate, anonymised download and usage metrics provided by Apple) to understand how the app is doing. We cannot tie these aggregate metrics to you personally.

No account required

FairScan requires no sign-up, no email address, no phone number, and no social login. There is no FairScan account. There is no FairScan server that stores your identity or any document you have ever scanned.

Data we do not collect

To be explicit about what FairScan does not do:

Children

FairScan is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal data from anyone of any age.

Data breach risk

Because FairScan stores nothing on our servers, there is no FairScan database to breach. If your device is compromised, that is governed by Apple's device security model — we recommend using a strong passcode and Face ID/Touch ID.

Retention

We retain no data. Documents and settings stored on your device are deleted when you delete FairScan or when you delete them yourself. iCloud Drive files follow Apple's iCloud deletion policy.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be noted in the App Store release notes. Continued use of FairScan after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
